| The painting is in exceptionally good original condition with a good depth of colour. |
A finely painted whitewood Tunbridge Ware needlework basket with swing handle. The pin hinged lids are painted with cottage scenes and the frieze is decorated with a floral border. The interior has original paper lining.
Painted Tunbridge Ware was the forerunner to the inlaid work, which was produced primarily in the Tonbridge & Tunbridge Wells areas in the nineteenth century. Whitewood items were made prior to 1800 and remained popular until around 1830.
